Parliament.nz Website
The new New Zealand Parliament
website has gone live this week. Juha has a few comments. I had a
quick look around and it is not too bad.
I noticed a few strange things. The site doesn't appear to have an
explicit copyright listing anywhere but I assume it is under a similar copyright
to the main www.govt.nz site. Also the
FAQs Page has You may
not reproduce any image or photograph of Parliament Buildings for
commercial purposes. Images of Parliament buildings (the Parliamentary
Library, Parliament House, and the Beehive) are protected by
copyright. which is a little strange. Hopefully just some nutty
bureaucrat's rantings.
Hansard appears to be free of copyright though, this might come in use
for a project I am planning.
On a similar topic I emailed the Maori Language Commission
last week to ask if they were going to release the Monolingual (100%
content) dictionary (see page 17 of this
pdf) under an open license. Haven't heard back but it would
be nice to see a million-odd dollars being used for something that
could be distributed and added to freely by everybody.
