In a couple of articles (
one ,
two )
in his
blog Russell Brown
speculates the the expiry of the domains itunes.co.nz and apple.co.nz indicate
that Apple is about to make a move (such as a New Zealand itunes site).
Here are the relevant whois entries:
domain_name: apple.co.nz
domain_datebilleduntil: 2006-12-07T00:00:00+13:00
domain_datelastmodified: 2006-11-07T23:42:13+13:00
domain_name: itunes.co.nz
domain_datebilleduntil: 2007-10-17T01:21:09+13:00
domain_datelastmodified: 2006-10-15T07:15:31+13:00
Unfortunately it is probably a false alarm. Both of the domains are hosted
by clear.net.nz which expires and rotates every domain they look after every
month (as do some other registrars).
Here are some other clear hosted domains:
domain_name: clear.co.nz
domain_datebilleduntil: 2006-12-01T00:00:00+13:00
domain_datelastmodified: 2006-11-01T23:48:11+13:00
domain_name: clear.net.nz
domain_datebilleduntil: 2006-12-02T00:00:00+13:00
domain_datelastmodified: 2006-11-02T23:42:17+13:00
domain_name: telstraclear.co.nz
domain_datebilleduntil: 2006-12-04T00:00:00+13:00
domain_datelastmodified: 2006-11-04T23:42:00+13:00
All the domains are set to expire in the past 30 days and have been modified
within the last month.
Sorry Russell, I guess you'll be stuck using bittorrent for music for a little
while longer.
